The photo was taken by Marion Post Wolcott in Leland, Mississippi in the delta area. It was taken in November 1939. The photo was taken outside looking at the Rex Theatre. It looks like the setting is in a urban environment because of the buildings surrounding. It does not look that light outside so I would say maybe it is dusk time. There are two men standing outside the theatre they African American. They look like they are wearing hats. I would guess it is a colored neighborhood because there is a colored theatre and to African American Americans standing outside the theatre. The thing that caught my eye first was the title the Rex theatre For Colored People. The structures in the photo are a theatre and a building connected to it to the left and a building closely spaced to it on the right. I would say the tone of the photo is negative because it promotes segregation. If i could ask the photographer one question i would ask if he lived in the neighborhood and if so what kind of neighborhood is it.

This photo was taken by Marion Post Wolcott in Belzoni, Mississippi in the delta area. The photo was taken in October of 1939. The setting is a building with a Dr. Pepper add on the side of it. The photo is taken outside looking at the theater. I would say it is bright out because of the shadows on the building. Because of the brightness it is probably day time. It is hard to tell but i think it is a Urban setting just because if the size of the building. You can not see any other buildings surrounding this one. There is one person in the photo on the stairs entering the building. You can only see his shadow but I think he is African American because the building says Colored Adm. 10 cents. I cant not tell what the person is wearing but it looks like he is wearing some kind of hat. The thing that caught my eye first was the shadow of the man walking up the steps into the building. The only building in the picture is the one with the Dr. Pepper advertisement. You can not see any other buildings, so you can not tell what kind of area it is or what other stores or houses are around it. The picture is negative because it promotes segregation. If I could ask the photographer one question i would ask him who the man in the shadow is and what is the building for.

This photo was taken by Marion Post Wolcott in Memphis, Tennessee. The photo was taken in October 1939. The photo is taken outside looking down a street. It is a very urban area with the Hotel Clark on the street. It looks light out so i think it is probably daytime. There a four people standing outside the Hotel Clark. Some look like there work there and are taking bags. They look like they are dressed pretty nice so I am guessing they are wealthier African Americans. The thing that aught my eye first was the Hotel Clark sign. There are many building lining this sidewalk the only on you can tell what kind of work they do is the hotel. The picture is negative because once again it promotes segregation. If i could ask the photographer one question I would ask if he has stayed at the hotel and why he would take a picture of the hotel.
